Hogs Downed by Tigers 3-1 on Friday
The Razorback volleyball team suffered its third straight loss on Friday as the Hogs fell 3-1 to the Missouri Tigers. Arkansas is now 4-3 in the SEC and 14-5 overall on the season.
Redshirt freshmen hitters Aniya Madkin and Olivia Ruy both had 12 kills apiece, tied for highest on the team. Senior setter Hannah Hogue had her 14th double-double of the season with 34 assists and 12 digs.
Arkansas out-blocked Mizzou 11-6 on the evening, with senior Zoi Evans chipping in six total. Sania Petties had four, which included two solo.
Three Razorbacks were in double figures in digs for the night: Hogue with 12, Kylie Weeks with 15, and Courtney Jackson with 18.
Set 1
The first set saw back-and-forth from both teams early on until Arkansas used a 5-1 run for a 15-12 advantage at the media break. Mizzou got two points back, but the Hogs tacked on four straight with back-to-back kills from Madkin and extended the lead to 19-14. The Tigers kept on pushing and came within two at 20-22 with a pair of aces, which sent the Hogs to regroup with a timeout. Arkansas got the next two, and Missouri spoiled the set point once, but a final kill from Olivia Ruy sealed the set 25-21 for the Razorbacks.
Set 2
Set two started tied at 3-all, but a big 8-0 run by the Tigers put the Hogs into an early hole. Arkansas did recover some and pulled within three thanks to a 4-0 service run by Avery Calame, but Mizzou didn’t give any room for error. The Razorbacks ran out of time to forge a big enough comeback, and the Tigers took the second 25-18 to tie the match 1-1.
Set 3
Arkansas couldn’t get more than one point at a time to start the third set while Mizzou fired on all cylinders. The Tigers went up 11-3, and the Hogs called time. Arkansas started to find a rhythm after that and added 14 points to Mizzou’s seven, which sent the Tigers to a timeout up 18-17. Mizzou scored four of the next five though, and Arkansas couldn’t find a way to close. The Tigers finished it 25-20 and went up 2-1 in the match.
Set 4
Yet again, the Tigers limited the Hogs to a point or two at a time while they found ways to extend runs, which proved costly for Arkansas. The Razorbacks did come within four out of the media break at 15-11, but Mizzou got seven of the next nine points, which sent Arkansas to a timeout 22-13. The Hogs added just two more points, and the Tigers secured the 25-15 set victory and match victory shortly after.
