KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Arkansas women’s swimming and diving team was ranked 21st in CollegeSwimming.com’s first national poll of the 2008-09 season, released Friday. After finishing with its first winning season in eight years with a dual record of 7-5 last year and returning three All-Americans inKatie Kastes, Stephanie Carr, and Madison Palmer,to this year’s squad, the Razorbacks are a threat not only on a conference level, but also at the national level. In only his third year as Arkansas swimming and diving head coach, Jeff Poppell, has already made great strides in turning around a program that had struggled in recent years.

As a whole, the SEC earned six of the top 25 spots in the polls including Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Alabama. Four of the SEC teams in the polls ranked in the top 10, including the 2008 NCAA Champion team from Auburn who were ranked sixth. Kentucky also received votes in the polls.
