Kim In Top Five At All-America Golf Classic

EL PASO, Texas – Arkansas sophomore Charles Kim opened play in the 2016 Sun Bowl Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic on Saturday and fired rounds of 72-67 – 139 (-3) to sit T-5th at El Paso Country Club.

Kim opened his day at 3-over through the first five holes, but quickly rebounded and shot 2-under over the final 13 holes to get to 1-over in the morning round.

He bounced back in a big way during the afternoon wave, with birdies on four of the first six holes to vault up the leaderboard. He tallied seven total birdies in the round to post a 4-under 67 and move up five spots.

Oklahoma State’s Kristoffer Ventura leads the tournament at 8-under, while LSU’s Sam Burns is one shot back at 7-under.

The third and final round of the College All-America Golf Classic will tee off Sunday morning at 8 a.m.

The prestigious event features 21 of the nation’s top collegiate golfers, including 12 All-Americans that are ranked among the top 100 amateur golfers according to World Amateur Rankings.

To be eligible for competition, student-athletes must have been named as an All-America team honoree during the previous year as well the U.S. Amateur Champion or Runner Up who still have collegiate eligibility.

Along with the opportunity to compete against the best-of-the-best from the collegiate level, each university represented at the Western Refining College All-Americans will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
