Lady?Backs Edge Panthers Record First Victory

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., -The University of Arkansas swimming and diving team earned its first team win of the season, Saturday, Oct. 22, as the Lady Razorbacks defeated Drury 158.5-140.5, in Springfield, Mo.

Arkansas swimming head coach Anne Goodman James said she was pleased with her squad’s performance.

“Our swimmers looked tired today but raced well and were able to pull off the win against a strong Drury team,” she said.

Freshman Summer Jackson paced the Lady’Backs with victories in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly.

“Summer Jackson was a phenomenal competitor today, coming from behind on the last length to win all three of her races,” Goodman James said.

Freshman Jesika Heidloff also scored with wins in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events.

Arkansas swept the diving events with redshirt freshman Madison Palmer taking top honors in the one meter while sophomore Brieanne Kushner won the three meter.

Goodman James said she was impressed with the divers, who in addition to the victories, qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.

“Our divers were in total control of their events,” Goodman James said.

Junior Kristen Thibodeaux won the 200 fly with the relay team of junior Mariann Fulop, Heidloff, Thibodeaux and Jackson recording their second win of the season in the 400 medley.
