Arkansas carded a 19-over 307 on the par-72, 6,315-yard Legends Course against the toughest field in college golf prior to the NCAA Championship in May. Third-ranked Georgia leads the field with a one-over 289 for the day. No. 4 Auburn is second with a 298 followed by No. 14 Tennessee as the Southeastern Conference dominated first-round play. Second-ranked Arizona State snuck in at fourth followed by No. 10 Vanderbilt to round out the top five. "I was really surprised at how high scores were across the board today," said Arkansas head coach Kelley Hester. "We were hitting the greens well today and I feel like we played much better than our scores. It’s the small things we have to get better at." Sophomore Lucy Nunn leads Arkansas. The Lawton, Okla., native carded a 75 and is tied for 21st overall. Junior Ashley Medders and freshman Alex Schulte are tied for 35th with 77, followed by junior Stacy Lewis who is tied for 48th after a first-round 78. Freshman Tanica van As is tied for 57th after a first-round 81. "The rough is really thick and if you miss, it’s hard to get up-and-down," said Hester. "We again played aggressive but we need to continue to work on our course management and get a few more up-and-downs." The Lady’Backs are currently tied for 12th just one stroke behind top-ranked and defending national champion Duke who carded a 306. Play continues through Sunday.
