Lady'Backs travel to Auburn for two

AUBURN, ALA. – The University of Arkansas softball team travels to Auburn for a midweek Southeastern Conference doubleheader against the Tigers at Jane B. Moore Field beginning at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Lady Razorbacks (21-9) look to improve their SEC record (1-5) and rebound from a series sweep by Florida this past weekend. Auburn (25-4) tries to continue its five game win streak after taking three games from Mississippi to improve their conference record to 5-1.

Auburn’s a good ball club,” said head coach Jamie Pinkerton. “We dropped the series at home and put ourselves in a position that whether it be Auburn, Georgia or Kentucky, we’re going to have to pick up wins somewhere on the road.”

Arkansas and Auburn are pretty even in the series record with the Lady’Backs enjoying a one-game advantage, 19-18. The Lady’Backs are 2-12 against Auburn in the last three years and the Tigers won both games in a midweek doubleheader at Lady’Back Yard last season. A three-run home run by Hollie Currie put Auburn up in game one. In the second game, Arkansas took the early lead and out hit Auburn eight to four, but five errors and a three-run fourth inning put the Tigers on top 3-2.

Second in the SEC Western Division, Auburn brings in a .252 team batting average and a 1.03 earned run average (ERA) compared to Arkansas’ .282 average, 2.01 ERA and fourth-place standing in the West.

Sophomore Miranda Dixon leads the Lady’Backs with a .416 average, .813 slugging percentage and nine doubles, a triple and seven home runs. Katy Henry leads the pitching staff with 10 wins and 90 strikeouts in 93.1 innings pitched.

Auburn is led by Taryn Gray who hits .380 with 35 hits and Anna Thompson who has eight wins and 125 K’s in 79.1 innings pitched.
