Luigs Headlines Razorback Pre-Season All-SEC

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Jonathan Luigs, Mitch Petrus and Antwain Robinson of the Arkansas Razorback football team were named to the Southeastern Conference’s Pre-Season All-SEC Teams voted on by the league’s coaches and released by the SEC office on Monday.

The Razorbacks had two players named to the pre-season teams on offense and one on defense. Luigs took first-team offensive honors at center with Petrus grabbing second-team offensive accolades as a lineman. Robinson was the Hogs only defensive team member as he earned third-team honors on the defensive line.

Luigs, the 2007 Rimington Award winner as the nation’s top center, was the lone Razorback to earn first-team honors and one of just six players in the league to be a unanimous first-team selection. A pre-season All-American in 2008, Luigs was a consensus All-American in 2007 and the focal point of the Razorback offensive line that helped clear the way for All-American running backs Darren McFadden and Felix Jones.

Arkansas’ starting left guard, Petrus was one of six offensive linemen named to the conference’s second team. Petrus has shown considerable improvement over the last year as he continues to refine his technique after being converted from fullback. He has been touted as one of the most improved Razorbacks by the Arkansas coaching staff and should solidify the left side of the line for the Hogs in 2008.

Robinson has seen extensive time on the field over his three seasons in Fayetteville and was named to the All-SEC pre-season third-team. The Razorback coaching staff looks to use Robinson in a rotation of defensive linemen this fall and hopes that his experience and quickness off the end can continue to produce big numbers which include 23 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, 15 passes broken up and three touchdowns over a 28-game career.

Next up on the Razorback football schedule is SEC Media Day on Friday, July 25, followed by the first day of practice on Monday, Aug. 4. For more information regarding Razorback football or University of Arkansas athletics, please visit ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
