DALLAS- Cold and windy conditions at the Baylor Invitational on Monday proved to be a challenge for the University of Arkansas men’s golf team. The team is back for its fourth tournament of the fall season, making a fourth place showing after two rounds of play at the par-71 Royal Oaks Country Club.

The Razorbacks began the day just three strokes off Texas A&M’s lead with a team score of 291, primed to take the lead for themselves in Round 2. Sophomore Jamie Marshall brought in the lowest of the hogs’ scores in the first with a 70 only to follow in the second with an 81, losing his tie for the No. 2 spot.

The team dropped down the leaderboard to fourth place after they carded a 297 in the second round, leaving them with a 20-over 588 score at the end of day one. Texas A&M retained the lead, ending only 9-over, followed by Lamar at 11-over, and Oklahoma at 17-over.

Senior golf Andrew Landry did remarkably well in the windy conditions. He posted a (71-70) 141 to end 1-under-par for the day. Landry is firmly holding the No. 2 position just two strokes behind Bronson Burgoon of Texas A&M. A little known fact about Landry is his well-honed ability of controlling ball flight in such blustery conditions.

“It is something I have practiced a lot and something that I feel I do well at,” Landry said of his ability to perform.

Junior David Lingmerth is hanging tough in the pack with a 6-over (73-75) 148. Currently Lingmerth is tied for 18th place individually. Ethan Tracy came in from the cold with a card of (77-76)153, while Jason Cuthbertson made his first tournament appearance of the season with (80-76) 156.

Head coach Brad McMakin’s team will take to the course for the final round of play on Tuesday at 8:30.
