Mia Cochran, Analisse Batista collect SEC weekly honors
BIRMINGHAM – A pair of career best performances at the Arkansas Qualifier merited a pair of SEC weekly honors for Mia Cochran as Runner of the Week and Analisse Batista as Freshman of the Week.
Cochran produced a career best time of 4:34.70 in the mile to finish third in the race and the top collegian. Cochran finished behind professionals Shafiqua Maloney (4:33.68) and Yazmine Wright (4:34.29) while leading a 3-4-5-6-8 finish by the Razorbacks.
Cochran’s time was fourth fastest among collegians on the weekend and she becomes third fastest in the SEC this season. Teammates producing career best times in the race included Tiana LoStracco (4:34.81) and Ainsley Erzen (4:44.37).
After posting a 4:48.48 during her freshman season in 2023, Cochran had steadily improved in 2024. She finished sixth in the Arkansas Invitational with a 4:42.03, then ran 4:40.50 at the Razorback Invitational to finish fifth in her section.
Entering the Arkansas qualifier with a previous best of 2:07.50 from the Tyson Invitational held the previous week, Batista knocked two-plus seconds off in establishing a career best of 2:05.13 to finish second in the 800m as the top collegian.
Batista had the second fastest mark among collegians on the weekend and now ranks 10th in the SEC as the second best freshman, just behind a 2:05.10 by South Carolina’s Judy Kosgei, who ran 2:06.37 this past weekend.
Prior to this season, Batista’s time would rank among the UA all-time top 10, but it’s currently 13th due to times by Sanu Jallow (2:01.77 No.2), Erzen (2:02.46, No. 5), and LoStracco (2:04.22, No. 9) making the top 10 this indoor season.
