More than 100 Lady'Backs make the grade

FAYETTEVILLE — Nineteen University of Arkansas female student-athletes earned 4.0 grade point averages for the 2004 fall semester leading a list of more than 100 Lady Razorbacks with 3.0s or better. The Lady Razorback gymnastics and cross country/track and field teams led the way with four athletes each earning perfect marks for the semester. Gymnasts Katie Hardman, Melissa Leigh, Audra Loveless and Hannah McLeod were joined by harriers Dacia Barr, Brandy Buss, Sarah Saffa and Maureen Scott on the Women’s Athletics Department’s Academic Champions list with 4.0s. Two of basketball’s three nominees for ESPN Academic All-American – leading scorer Sarah Pfeifer and starting guard Kristin Peoples – also had 4.0 semester grades. The Lady Razorbacks had 40 athletes on the department’s Athletic Director’s List with grades in the 3.5 to 3.99 range and 43 Lady’Backs earned Academic Honor Roll recognition for grades of 3.0 to 3.49 for the fall semester. As a department, the Lady Razorbacks had nearly 68 percent of its student-athletes at 3.0 or better for the semester. The Gym’Backs paced the department with 11 of the team’s 13 members in that range as they combined for a 3.42 team GPA.
