Mustangs drops Hogs 5-2.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 17th-ranked University of Arkansas women’s tennis team fell to the No. 69 Southern Methodist Mustangs Wednesday afternoon at the Billingsley Tennis Center, 5-2. “Give a ton of credit to SMU for winning an overall well-played match,” said Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty. The Mustangs (13-2) swept through doubles earning the critical first point of the match. “Doubles wasn’t out best, but we played a fairly good match throughout singles.” Halfway through the singles matches, teams were forced to finish the match inside due to darkness. Pavi Francis put SMU ahead, 2-0, after defeating Nanar Airapetian, 6-4, 6-3. On Court 6, Kate Lukomskaya fell to Kseniia Tokarieva, 6-2, 7-6(2), extending the Mustang lead to 3-0. Aleksandra Malyarschikova provided the clincher dropping Ela Kaluder, 7-6, 6-0. With the match in hand, freshman Emily Carbone stormed back for a three-set victory, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, over Nicole Briceno. Sophomore Anouk Tigu, ranked 92nd nationally, dropped Natalia Bubien in three sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
