Preseason poll favors Razorbacks for SEC cross country title

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Voting by league head coaches favor the Arkansas men to win the SEC cross country title this fall. The Razorbacks secured 11 of 12 first place votes, as announced by the SEC office on Thursday.

Arkansas claimed a league record 26th SEC championship in cross country during the 2020 season while winning its first cross country league title since 2017. It was the first leg of three conference titles in 2020-21 as the Razorback achieved a 16th SEC triple crown.

Arkansas tops the men’s poll with 11 points. Ole Miss, who won two consecutive SEC titles in 2018 and 2019, ranks second with 23 points while Alabama, who received the other first-place vote, ranks third with 35 points.

The next set of schools include Kentucky (43), Tennessee (57), Missouri (61), Georgia (70), and Florida (78) for positions 4-8. They are followed by LSU (88), Texas A&M (94), Auburn (116) and Vanderbilt (116).

Points in the men’s poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11 basis. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.

Missouri will serve as host of the SEC Championships on October 29th. The Razorbacks open the season next week on Friday, September 3, with a trip to Columbia, Missouri, to run on the Gans Creek course during the Missouri Opener.
