LAST TIME OUT
- Arkansas Women’s Basketball earned its second win in as many days Sunday, as the Hogs handled the Belmont Bruins, 83-63, in Bud Walton Arena.
- Arkansas wasted no time jumping out in front Sunday, racing out to a 16-point lead less than six minutes into the game.
- Six different Hogs got in the scoring column during that span, and that set the tone for an all-around scoring effort for the home squad.
- The Hogs dished out 17 assists Sunday and held the lead for all but 49 seconds of the game.
- The Hogs continued to dominate in the second quarter with the help of a couple Spencer three-pointers, and by the time the teams were headed to the locker room, Arkansas had a 23-point advantage.
- It was all housekeeping after that, as Arkansas’s lead never dipped below 18 in the second half.
- Arkansas’ 83 points was the most points given up by Belmont since March 6, 2020 (114, SEMO, 3/6/20).
- Barnum scored 15+ for the fourth time in seven games.
- She also nabbed four steals, her third game this season with 3+ steals.
- Jersey Wolfenbarger got into double-figures for the second straight game, going for 10 points.
- Sasha Goforth reached double-figures also, going for 10 points.
- Makayla Daniels dished 5+ assists for the third time in five games.
STORYLINES
- Seven games into the young season, Arkansas is 6-1, and has won four straight.
- The Hogs won two games in two days over the weekend, downing Sam Houston and Belmont.
- Arkansas pulled away late against Sam Houston, winning that game by 26 points.
- It was the opposite against Belmont, as the Hogs raced out to a 22-6 lead.
- The win against Belmont was a quality win, as the Bruins were receiving votes in the WBCA Poll.
- Erynn Barnum led the way in the Belmont win, going for 15 points and seven boards.
- Barnum has had a stellar start to the season, showcasing her ability to do a little bit of everything.
- Seven games into the season, she’s averaging 12.4 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 1.7 SPG, 1.0 APG.
- Her marks in scoring, rebounding and steals are all team bests despite playing just 21.3 MPG.
- Barnum has scored 15+ in four of seven starts this season. For context, before this season, Barnum had only scored more than 15 points in two games.
- After going scoreless in the opener, Amber Ramirez has rounded into form. Following the Tarleton game, Ramirez has averaged 13.2 PPG, hitting 44 percent of her shots and 41 percent of her triples.
- Ramirez led the way in the Sam Houston win, going for 17 points.
- Freshman Jersey Wolfenbarger has started to find her footing, as she went for double-figures against both Sam Houston (16) & Belmont (10).
- The Hogs’ offensive philosophy is centered around “making opponents wrong”.
- With the plethora of weapons Neighbors has on this team, that is happening nightly.
- Erynn Barnum (12.4 PPG) leads the way, but three other Hogs – Samara Spencer (11.6 PPG), Amber Ramirez (11.3 PPG) and Makayla Daniels (11.0 PPG) – are also averaging double-figures.
- Sasha Goforth (9.9 PPG) is also on the doorstep of double-figures, while Jersey Wolfenbarger (7.5 PPG) is providing a scoring punch off the bench.
- Barnum (x3), Daniels (x2), and Ramirez (x2) have all been the top scorer at least twice this season, while Elauna Eaton led the way against UAPB with 15.
- Daniels (22 vs. AState) and Ramirez (20 @ UConn) are the only Hogs to hit 20 points this season.
