#ProHogs Report: Week 1

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Week 1 of the NFL season is now officially in the books. With plenty of games left to be played and the Super Bowl still months away, many fans and pundits tend to not get too caught up in the winners and losers of the first week. However, a quick start for certain teams and even players could pay dividends down the road.

For 18 former Razorbacks, the NFL season started for them as well, but many were left on the inactive list for the first week’s slate of games. 10 former Hogs saw playing time in Week 1 and seven were listed as inactive. Center Travis Swanson (Detroit) and offensive lineman Jason Peters (Philadelphia) were two of the Razorbacks that shined in Week 1, while one of the newest pros with Hog ties picked up his first official reception.

Henry Make First Catch of NFL Career
Former Razorback tight end and John Mackey Award winner made his NFL debut in the Chargers’ 33-27 overtime loss to the Kansas City Chiefs and made his first official catch for 20 yards. Henry was only on the field for 30 offensive plays, but also got on the field for nine special teams snaps.

Swanson Wins Center Job
Entering his third year as a pro with the Detroit Lions, Swanson was in a position battle with rookie Graham Glasgow all preseason. Swanson, however, won the job and helped guide a Detroit offensive line to a 39-35 win over Indianapolis. Quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 31-of-39 passes for 340 yards and three touchdowns.

Swanson played every offensive snap and earned a, 84.2 grade – the highest among all Lions players in the game. The Lions host Tennessee in Week 2. Kickoff Sunday is scheduled for Noon on FOX.

Peters With The Touchdown “Catch”
Peters was fighting a quad injury all preseason, but was ready to face the Browns Sunday and looked 100 percent. The former Razorback tight end turned NFL tackle played all 77 snaps on the offensive side of the ball in the Eagles 29-10 over Cleveland. His quarterback Carson Wentz threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns in his pro debut.

Peters was also the star of one of the videos of the week when he caught running back Ryan Mathews mid-air as he crossed the goal line for a touchdown.

Peters and the Eagles have the Monday night spotlight when they play at Chicago for Week 2. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN.

Goode Signs Contract Days Before Week One
Nine-year pro Brett Goode was not on the Green Bay Packers active roster after the preseason ended because he had yet to sign a new contract with the team he has been a part of for the last eight seasons.

Goode, who has been the Packers’ long-snapper for his entire career, was placed on injured reserve late last season after tearing his ACL against the Oakland Raiders. Nonetheless, Goode signed his new contract just days before the Packers Week 1 matchup at Jacksonville and was the long snapper on all nine of Green Bay’s kicking plays.
