#ProHogs Report: Week 2

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – 10 former Razorbacks saw action during Week 2 of the NFL season with many seeing an uptick in playing time and some making their first career starts.

Most notably, tight end Hunter Henry and defensive end Darius Philon each made their first career starts on Sunday in the Chargers’ 38-14 win over Jacksonville. Philon, who is in the midst of his second full season with San Diego, finally got his chance at a starting role after a good Week 1 performance. Philon played 38 snaps on defense and had his first quarterback hurry of the season.

As for Henry, he seemed to move into the primary backup role to Antonio Gates this week, playing 39 snaps on offense and eight snaps on special teams. Henry didn’t have any targets in Week 2, but saw more snaps than Gates and helped block for running back Melvin Gordon, who racked up 102 yards on the ground with one touchdown.

Here are some highlights of how the other former Hogs did during Week 2:

Henry and Allen Meet Up For Photo Op
Teammates for three years in a Razorback uniform, Hunter Henry and quarterback Brandon Allen were on the same field again Sunday, albeit for opposing teams. Henry, a top draft choice for the San Diego Chargers and Allen for the Jacksonville Jaguars, met up after the game for a photo and exchange of jerseys.

Allen finished his Razorback career with 7,463 yards passing, ranking third in program history, while Henry was the 2015 John Mackey Award winner as the nation’s best tight end and a consensus First Team All-American during his final year, hauling in a 739 receiving yards and 51 catches to lead all FBS tight ends.

Swanson Continues Strong Play
Center Travis Swanson made his second straight start for the Detroit Lions on Sunday against Tennessee. Swanson played every down on offense (79 snaps) and helped block for quarterback Matthew Stafford, who threw for 260 yards and one touchdown, his second game in a row with 250+ yards through the air.

Flowers Pounces on Fumble
After a strong preseason, defensive end Trey Flowers seems poised to be one of the New England Patriots’ premier defenders this season. On Sunday against Miami, Flowers played 37 snaps on defense, picking up one tackle and one fumble recovery.

Early in the third quarter with the Patriots already leading the Dolphins, 24-3, linebacker Jonathan Freeny caused the fumble just outside the red zone, which allowed Flowers to jump on the ball and give the Patriots the ball back on their own 32-yard line. New England later scored on the ensuing possession and defeated the Dolphins 31-24.
