Razorbacks Complete Perfect Weekend, Defeat Alabama 5-2

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.  – The No. 57 Arkansas women’s tennis team earned its second win of the weekend, defeating No. 50 Alabama, 5-2. The Razorbacks took the doubles point and then three singles courts to clinch the win over the Crimson Tide.

In doubles, the Crimson Tide took the advantage early on with No. 42 Anne Marie Hiser/Loudmille Bencheikh defeating Arkansas’ No. 45 Morgan Cross/Indianna Spink on court one, 6-2. Once again though, the Razorbacks were able to get the job done and take the point with two straight doubles wins on courts two and three. Arkansas’ Carolina Gomez Alonso and Kelly Keller struck first with a 6-2 victory over their opponents on court three. It was the No. 75 duo of Lenka Stara and Grace O’Donnell who clinched the Razorbacks’ third straight doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Alabama’s Pitak twins.

Alabama got on the board early in singles play, taking court one over No. 94 Kelly Keller 7-5, 6-1. The Razorbacks continued to dominate, taking four first sets. Graduate student Kacie Harvey was the first singles point for the Hogs, defeating Alabama’s Rebeka Kern in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. The Crimson Tide was right behind, tying up the match at 2-2 with a win on court four.

Junior Morgan Cross put the Razorbacks up within one, completing her own perfect weekend with a 6-1, 7-5 victory on court five. The match was down to two courts, but it was No. 49 freshman Carolina Gomez Alonso who sealed the deal with a 6-4, 6-3 win over her Crimson Tide opponent.

The Razorbacks finish up the regular season next weekend, traveling to take on the Missouri Tigers on Friday, April 14.
