Razorbacks involved in various national championships in July

EUGENE – Arkansas women will have a combined crew of 21 Razorbacks, alums and athletes with ties to the program competing in various national championships in July, including the USATF Championships at Hayward Field as well as the Jamaican Championships in Kingston on July 6-9 this week.

The various national championships serve as the trials for the World Athletics Championships being held in Budapest, Hungary, from August 19-27. Other national championships include the Great Britain and Portugal meets.

Competing in the USATF U20 Championships, also being held in Eugene, is incoming Razorback Shawnti Jackson, who is entered in the 200. Jackson, who will race in the 100m on the senior level, set the national high school record in the 100m with a 10.89 this season and has run a career best of 22.70 in the 200m.

The USATF Championships also serve as a selection event for the 2023 NACAC U23 Championships in Costa Rica and the Thorpe Cup combined events meet in Marburg, Germany, this summer as well as the Pan American Games in Chile during the fall.

Coverage of the pair of USATF Championship meets will be broadcast live via a mix of USATF.TV+, CNBC, and Peacock. CNBC and Peacock coverage will air from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. (CT) p.m. on July 7 and 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. (CT) from July 8-9.

In the latest Track & Field News women’s formchart for the USATF Championships, there are seven athletes with ties to the Arkansas program who are predicted to finish among the top three with two more predicted to place among the top five.

A pair of athletes who train in Fayetteville are tabbed for victories with Shamier Little in the 400m hurdles and Tara Davis-Woodhall in the long jump.

Little, who finished fourth in the World Championships last summer after placing third at the USATF Championships, is predicted to win the USATF 400m hurdles title. Little ranks third in the world this season with a 53.38. Davis-Woodhall is the current world leader in the long jump for 2023 with a windy mark of 23-4w (7.11) and ranks second among wind-legal marks at 23-2.5 (7.07).

Runner-up finishes predicted by T&F News include Britton Wilson in the 400m, Nikki Hiltz in the 1,500m, Krissy Gear in the 3,000m steeplechase, Sandi Morris in the pole vault, and Taliyah Brooks in the heptathlon. Rosey Effiong is predicted to place fourth in the 400m while Taylor Werner is selected for fifth in the 5,000m.

Additional entries in the meet include Jada Baylark (100m, 200m), Paris Peoples (400m), Katie Izzo (5k), Madison Langley-Walker (400m Hurdles), and Logan Jolly (Steeple).

USATF U20 Entries 2023

200 Shawnti Jackson

Ackera Nugent, a double NCAA hurdle champion in 2023, headlines a trio of Razorbacks competing in the Jamaica Championships in Kingston. Joining Nugent (100m Hurdles) are Nickisha Pryce (400m) and Joanne Reid (400m).

The British Championships, being held in Manchester on July 8-9, include Razorback Amber Anning (400m) and Cindy Ofili (100m hurdles), who trains in Fayetteville. Laura Taborda is schedule to compete in the Portugal Championships at the end of July.
