Razorbacks Return To Cali For Fall Finale

CARLSBAD, Calif. – Nearly a month removed from a top five finish at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate, the Arkansas men’s golf team will close out its fall season at the 11th Annual Gifford Collegiate at the La Costa Legends Course. The three-day event will begin on Monday and is Arkansas’ second event in California this fall.

The Razorbacks are one of nine teams in the 15-team field that is currently in the top 50 of the Golfweek rankings. Arkansas, who has the ninth-ranked strength of schedule through three fall events, will play alongside No. 5 Stanford and host UCLA for Monday’s first round start at 10 a.m. CT.

Live scoring for all three rounds can be found on www.Golfstat.com or via the Golfstat Live app.

Four of Arkansas’ five players in the starting lineup have taken part in each of the first three fall events with all four sporting a scoring average below 73.5. The senior trio of Kolton Crawford, Nicolas Echavarria and Taylor Moore have played in a combined 110 collegiate events, while sophomore Alvaro Ortiz has finished as the team low-man in two of three tournaments this fall.

Ortiz opened the year by tying for seventh place at the Carmel Cup held in California at Pebble Beach and tied for 11th most recently at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate. After no top 15 finishes and four under-par rounds as a freshman in 2014-15, Ortiz has a pair of top 15s in the fall with four under-par rounds. He has been the first round overall leader in two of Arkansas’ three tournaments this fall.

Echavarria’s most recent round was a four-under 66 in the final round of the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate, as he leads Arkansas with a 72.1 stroke average. Echavarria has a counting score in eight of nine rounds played with his top finishing coming in the form of a 13th-place showing at the Fighting Illini Invitational.

Making his 40th career start as a Razorback this week, Moore has been his normal reliable self this fall with a counting score in all nine rounds. Moore’s 100th career counting score came in his 114th career round on the final day of the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate as his 71 worked him into his 22nd career top 20. Moore led Arkansas with a 71.8 scoring average last year and sports a 72.7 average this fall.

Crawford’s low-round of the fall also came on the final day of the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate. Four of Crawford’s last six rounds have been at 73 or lower.
