Razorbacks continue to play from coast to coast

FAYETTEVILLE – The Razorback baseball season ended a little more than a week ago and after a very short break 14 members of the 2009 squad packed their bags and headed to teams from coast to coast to participate in various summer baseball leagues.

Sophomore Andy Wilkins went to the USA National Team while Brett Eibner and Zack Cox traveled to the prestigious Cape Cod League to play for the Wareham Gatemen and Cotuit Kettleers, respectively. Wilkins was scheduled to play for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox in the Cape Cod League, but accepted his appointment to the national team. Eibner is in his second stint with the Gatemen while Cox makes his first appearance in the league after spending last summer on a traveling baseball team just out of high school.

Sophomore Sam Murphy is the lone Razorback playing in the Alaska League while five Razorbacks, Seth Gardner (McKinney Marshals), Geoffrey Davenport (McKinney Marshals), Kyle Atkins (Brazos Valley Bombers), Bryan Bingham (Coppell Copperheads) and Zac Russell (Coppell Copperheads) are all members of the Texas Collegiate League. Murphy spent the summer of 2008 in the Northwoods League and moved to the Alaska League for a new experience. Arkansas’ five Texas Collegiate League members are natives of Texas or Arkansas and chose to play closer to home.

In the Northwoods League are Collin Kuhn (Green Bay Bullfrogs), Drew Smyly (Duluth Huskies) and Kendall Wehrle (Duluth Huskies) with Scott Limbocker (Chillicothe Mudcats) and Trevor Cousineau (Sedalia Bombers) becoming members of the M.I.N.K. League. Kuhn returns to his home state of Wisconsin to play summer ball for the second straight season. Smyly and Wehrle are each participating in the league for the first time. The M.I.N.K (Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas) returns Scott Limbocker and welcomes Cousineau.

The Razorbacks had several other members of their squad scheduled to play in summer baseball but for various reasons were unable to participate including Bo Bigham, James McCann and Jarrod McKinney.
