Scott Jakosky take first team academic honors
FAYETTEVILLE – Senior Laura Jakosky and junior Maureen Scott each nabbed first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI honors for track and field/cross country it was announced on Friday afternoon.
The honor is the first for Jakosky who recently graduated cum laude from the Walton College of Business with a degree in marketing while Scott takes her second first-team all-district honor in 2005 as she maintains a perfect 4.0 grade point average in exercise science. Along with the duo, senior Alison (Zeinner) Rush took second-team all-district honors with a 3.40 graduate school GPA in mathematics.
“Each of these women are the epitome of the student-athlete and what we are trying to get accomplished at the University of Arkansas,” Arkansas head coach Lance Harter said. “All three are going to the NCAA Championships for the second straight season; Maureen was the SEC champion in the steeplechase and also an all-American on the track. We are very proud of their accomplishments.”
For Jakosky and Scott, their first-team all-district status allows them to move on to the academic all-America balloting which takes place over the next two weeks. Their names will be combined with the first team student-athletes from the other seven districts and the 80 honorees will be judged on their academic and athletic achievements to determine who will be academic all-Americans. The women’s academic all-America teams are scheduled be announced on Thursday, June 23.
To be eligible for nomination to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine all-academic teams, student-athletes must be a sophomore or older and maintain a cumulative 3.20 grade point average and be a significant contributor to their team. The Lady Razorbacks were on a district ballot with athletes from Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
