Six Lady'Backs Named to Academic All-America Team

FAYETTEVILLE-Six members of the University of Arkansas 2004-05 softball team were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Academic All-America Scholar-Athlete team, the organization announced.

Katy Henry, Dayna Huckabee, Rachel LeMaster, Valanna Lyons, Heather Rankin and Sarah Topham were recognized for the honor after qualifying with at least a 3.5 grade point average.

Lady Razorbacks’ head coach Jamie Pinkerton said he was pleased with the academic awards the squad achieved in his first year at Arkansas.

“As a staff, we’re real proud of their accomplishments in the classroom,” he said. “To have one-third (six of 18 members) of the team to be named scholar-athlete is a great accomplishment for our program.”

As a team, the Lady’Backs were No. 40 in the NFCA All-Academic Division I category with a 3.166 G.P.A. which ranked fourth highest in the Southeastern Conference.
