Soccer match at South Carolina picked up for TV

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas Lady Razorback soccer team’s Southeastern Conference match with South Carolina has been chosen to be televised as a part of the league’s women’s soccer television package it was announced by the conference office. The game is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28 atnoon central in Columbia, S.C., and will be shown live on both Fox Sports and Sun Sports.

The Arkansas-South Carolina matchup has been an exciting one over the past several years with Arkansas winning two of the last four meetings and working a 1-1 tie in last year’s contest in Fayetteville. The Gamecocks are considered one of the up-and-coming teams in the league and hope to defend their home field in 2007, a task they have not been up to against the Lady Razorbacks as Arkansas is 2-1 all-time at Eugene Stone III Stadium in Columbia, S.C., and has won its past two trips to the Palmetto state.

“Any time you get to play on television it is a tremendous opportunity,” Arkansas head coach Gordon Henderson said. “Parents, family members and friends get to see their loved ones play and with our roster which covers the entire country that is a tremendous bonus. The coverage of women’s soccer is growing and this is an extension of that growth. I am looking forward to this match with South Carolina. They are a very good side and it should be a very entertaining game for both hard-core and casual fans to watch.”

The Lady Razorbacks’ televised contest with South Carolina is a first between the two schools. Since the SEC began broadcasting regular season women’s soccer, Arkansas has been paired with travel partner LSU two times and Vanderbilt once. The Lady’Backs have had modest success in those contests going 0-1-2 and hope that their winning ways in Columbia break their winless streak on TV.

The Lady Razorbacks soccer team arrives for preseason workouts on Sunday, August 12, with their first day of practice scheduled for 8:00 a.m., Monday, August 13. For more information about Lady Razorback soccer or about Arkansas women’s athletics, please go to
