Stripling Ulrey earn SEC honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Juniors Katie Stripling and Dorian Ulrey, members of the Arkansas track and field teams, earned weekly honors from the Southeastern Conference, it was announced on Tuesday.

Stripling was named the SEC Field Athlete of the Week for her win in the pole vault at the Missouri Southern Invitational. She cleared an NCAA and SEC-leading height of 14-4 in her fourth-straight pole vault victory this season.

Stripling’s mark is a new personal best and broke her previous school record of 14-3.25. She also set the pole vault facility record at MSSU’s Fred G. Hughes Stadium. She now holds four of the five marks on Arkansas’ all-time list.

At his first Penn Relays, Ulrey competed in the distance medley, 4×800-meter and 4xMile relays and was named the SEC Runner of the Week for his performances. The Razorbacks picked up top three finishes in all three events and a win in the 4xMile.

Ulrey’s splits for the weekend were 4:01.1 as the DMR mile anchor, 4:03.2 as the third leg of the 4xMile and a personal best 1:47.62 as the anchor of the 4×800. Running the third leg of the 4xMile, Ulrey made his move with about 300 meters to go and gave Arkansas a 60-meter lead heading into the final leg. Andy McClary sealed the win for the Razorbacks keeping the lead Ulrey provided him.

Ulrey was part of Arkansas’ 45th Penn Relays title overall and 20th 4xMile title. He also anchored Arkansas to a runner-up finish in the DMR and a bronze finish in the 4×800-meter relay.
