SCOUTING REPORTS – OFFENSE
From Offensive Coordinator, Bobby Petrino

10 Taylen Green | R-Jr | 6-6 | 223 | Lewisville, Texas | Lewisville HS / Boise State
He had a great spring. He’s very, very talented. He’s 230 and fast. When I came, Coach Pittman told me to go find a quarterback. We looked at a number of places and we liked his video the best. We did offer him at Missouri State, but I told our coaches when we saw him, “We won’t get him. He’s not coming here.” He came in this winter and wasn’t shy and wanted to lead. We like him a lot.
He’s 6-6 and that’s tall, but I like outliers. Sometimes that opens things up.

3 Malachi Singleton | R-Fr | 6-1 | 225 | Kennesaw, Ga. | North Cobb HS
He had a good spring. He can run and throw. As far as the running part, I told our coaches we probably won’t know how really good he is until he’s tackled. I think he can make people miss and break tackles.

15 KJ Jackson | Fr | 6-4 | 223 | Montgomery, Ala. | St. James School
He just keeps getting better. We are calling them equal, with him and Malachi. He’s got a very high football IQ. We’ve had a lot of good lefthanders through the years and I don’t think it matters.

16 Blake Boda | R-Fr | 6-4 | 200 | Daytona Beach, Fla. | Cocoa HS / Coastal Carolina
We’ve known him for a long time. He was coming when I got to Las Vegas. He’s another lefty.

Season Preview: Offense
By Clay Henry

Bobby Petrino had just finished 45 minutes with the media after being introduced as the new offensive coordinator for head coach Sam Pittman.

Petrino stepped off the podium and walked straight to my spot on the wings. To be honest, it was his exit path and I knew it.

I leaned in to whisper in his ear a short, sweet question. It was the only thing I wanted to know during the question and answer period. No one else asked it.

That’s ok. It wasn’t something that I needed to say into a microphone.

I asked, “How does it feel to be really needed?”

Petrino put his arm around my neck and leaned over to give me an answer. His reply was crystal clear, strong and unmistakably the truth.

“It feels really, really good,” he said.

The now 63-year-old ball coach didn’t need to say anything more to convince me. I didn’t ask anything else. We shook hands and he strolled out of the room with a big smile.

I drove home thinking about all of the things I’ve heard Petrino discuss during the many times I’ve either been with him for one-on-ones when he was a head coach, or something he’d said in a media briefing.

I couldn’t think of anything more meaningful he’d ever spoken.
