Thibodeaux earns Brad Davis SEC Community Award

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas senior Kristen Thibodeaux was selected as a recipient of the 2006-07 Brad Davis Southeastern Conference Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship, Commissioner Mike Slive announced recently. Thibodeaux was chosen by a committee of Faculty Athletics Representatives from SEC universities and will receive a $2,000 post-graduate scholarship, provided by the SEC. She was selected for giving back to the community in superior service efforts. “I’m proud of Kristen for receiving this honor,” said head coach Jeff Poppell. “She continues to accumulate well deserved accolades and awards for her excellence in the pool, classroom and community. She’s a wonderful representative of our program and the University.” The Spring, Texas, native works with the Champions of Character, athletes who perform skits at junior highs to encourage positive character qualities and serve as role models, and volunteered with the Conference of Champions, which leads small group activities for high school athletes at annual weekend retreats. Thibodeaux participated in the Razorbacks for Christmas and Lady’Backs for Christmas in which athletes encourage and provide toys for underprivileged children. Thibodeaux tutored academically challenged 2nd grade children at Jefferson Elementary School and is a member of the Sweat Hogs, Lady’Backs promoting physical fitness in regional elementary schools. She also volunteers with the Boys and Girls Club, AAO and Razorbacks for Kids. Thibodeaux received similar awards for her outstanding community service as a member of the 2005 SEC Swimming and Diving Good Works team and the 2007 SEC Community Service Team The SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship was named for former Associate Commissioner Brad Davis. Davis succumbed to cancer on March 2, 2006. He had been a member of the SEC staff since 1988, first serving as an assistant commissioner until 1994 when he was promoted to associate commissioner.
