Only two more days until the 2016 Battle for the Golden Boot — and the first time ever in the series two ranked teams will play for the Boot inside Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium. In a series filled with memorable moments, we took a crack at narrowing it down to the best five.
No. 5 – 2015 Beatdown
The Razorbacks went into Tiger Stadium in primetime and put a 31-14 beating on LSU in 2015 in front of 101,699 fans, marking the second straight win for Bret Bielema’s Razorbacks over LSU.
No. 4 – Fourth & Three (2010)
Facing a 4th-and-3 from the 40 yard line, Ryan Mallett connected with Joe Adams on a 39-yard touchdown pass. The win over 6th-ranked LSU sent the Hogs to the Sugar Bowl.
No. 3 – “They’re gonna go get that Boot…that’s THEIRS NOW!” (2014)
After coming up just short against SEC opponents on multiple occasions, on the 17th try and against a ranked LSU team at home on a cold November night, Bret Bielema finally got his first SEC win.
No. 2 – Got That Wood (2007)
Darren McFadden and the Hogs upset No. 1 LSU in Baton Rouge in one of the best games in No. 5’s illustrious career. 207 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns to go along with a touchdown pass. To complement the 3OT thriller, McFadden’s postgame interview made this one of the most memorable moments for Hog fans watching from home.
No. 1 – Miracle on Markham (2002)
34 seconds on the clock, down six points with no timeouts. That’s the scenario the 2002 Hogs faced in Little Rock against the ranked Tigers. What happened next? A 50-yard pass from Matt Jones to Richard Smith, followed by a miraculous touchdown catch by DeCori Birmingham in the back of the end zone. With the win, the Razorbacks cliched the SEC West crown.
