Top efforts at NCAA Regional

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas’ gymnastics team finished second in the NCAA West Regional at UCLA last week on the strength of several top 10 Razorback efforts in NCAA regional competition.

No. 3 UCLA won, followed by No. 9 Arkansas, No. 21 Arizona, No. 17 Iowa State, No. 32 Arizona State and No. 26 Brigham Young. The top two teams from six regionals advance to the NCAA Championship April 22-24 in Gainesville, Fla. Arkansas is in the championship for the fourth time in its eight years of having a program, the fourth time in five years and the third consecutive seasons.Arkansas scored a 196.675, a school record for a regional and the second-best ever in an NCAA meet. That total is also eighth-best all-time, the fifth top 10 score the Razorbacks have recorded this year.

Arkansas had a 49.100 on vault, a 49.400 on bars, 49.05 on beam and 49.125 on floor following a rotation of floor, vault, bye, bars, beam and bye. The 49.400 on bars is an overall school record, the 49.10 on vault is fourth-best in a regional, the 49.05 on beam second-best and 49.125 on floor is third-best.

Senior All-American Casey Jo Magee posted a 9.90 on all four events and tied for third in the all-around with a 39.600. She won beam, tied for second on floor, and tied for fourth on vault and bars. Her vault, beam and floor scores tied the school records in a regional, her all-around is a record and her bars total ties for second.

Sophomore All-American Jaime Pisani had a 9.875 on vault, 9.875 on bars, 9.775 on beam and 9.90 on floor for a 39.425 all-around. Her total is the second-best in Razorback history in a regional and placed fifth. She tied for second on floor, tied for sixth on vault and bars, and was 11th on beam. Her scores tied the school regional record on floor, and tied for fifth on vault and bars.Senior Amy DeFilippo had a 9.90 on bars to tie for fourth and that score ties for second-best in school history.

Senior All-American Sarah Nagashima had a 9.875 on bars, 9.85 on beam and 9.75 on floor, and a 39.025 all-around, which tied for eighth. She tied for fourth on floor and tied for sixth on bars. Her all-around score is Arkansas’ seventh-best in a regional, and her bars and beam totals tie for fifth-best.
