Tubert wins

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – University of Arkansas incoming freshman Emily Tubert won the 2010 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship in South Bend, Ind., Saturday.

The 18-year-old Burbank, Calif., native worked her way through the match play tree winning 3&2 on Saturday to claim the title defeating Lisa McCloskey of Houston, Texas.

Tubert finish the first 18 4-up on the par-71, 6,092-yard Warren Golf Course on the campus of Notre Dame.

She won seven consecutive holes beginning on No. 6 and moved from one-down to 5 up playing her rally stretch and six-under. McCloskey rallied winning Nos. 14 and 15 but Tubert won the 17th going on to lead at the break.

The teenagers returned to the course for the second 18 in the championship round. Tubert continued to play well leading 5 up twice before the 3&2 victory.

Tubert joins the Razorbacks for the fall semester.
