Williams Taken by Buffalo Bills in Fifth Round
CHICAGO – Arkansas running back Jonathan Williams became the second Razorback to come off the board during the 2016 NFL Draft Saturday afternoon when he was taken by the Buffalo Bills in the fifth round with the 156th overall pick.
Williams is the 31st player in program history selected as a running back in the NFL Draft and the second Razorback selected in this year’s draft after tight end Hunter Henry was taken in the second round by the San Diego Chargers.
The injury came in fall camp after earning preseason All-SEC second and third team honors from the media and league head coaches, respectively, while he also landed on the Maxwell Award watch list. The preseason accolades came on the heels of a junior season in 2014 in which he ran for 1,190 yards and 12 touchdowns on 211 carries en route to earning Associated Press (AP) All-SEC second team honors and a spot on the Earl Campbell Award semifinalist list.
Williams rushed for a touchdown in each of the first six games of his junior season, highlighted by a four TDs during a 145-yard day on the ground during a win at Texas Tech. The Allen, Texas product produced five 100-yard games in 2014, including 105 yards and a TD in a 31-7 win over Texas in the Advocare Texas Bowl in what turned out to be his final collegiate game.
Over his three seasons, Williams racked up 2,321 yards on the ground, highlighted by nine 100-yard games, a 5.7 yards per rush average and 16 touchdowns.
