Wisconsin next for women's cross

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Razorback women’s cross country will continue the 2009 season with a 5K race at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational. The gun will go off at 11:45 a.m., Sat., Oct. 3 at the Zimmer Cross Country Course in Madison, Wis.

Alyssa Allison, Cali George, Kristen Gillespie, Megan Jackson, Taylor Johnson, Samantha Learch, Miranda Walker, Ashley Williams and Keri Wood are slated to compete for the Razorbacks this weekend.

Also scheduled to compete in Madison this weekend are Auburn, No. 23 BYU, Duke, No. 11 Georgetown, No. 10 Illinois, Iowa, Lamar, Marquette, No. 17 Michigan, Nebraska, No. 21 Syracuse, Texas A&M, UW-La Crosse and Wisconsin, among others.

In the current edition of the USTFCCCA weekly rankings, the Razorbacks are listed at No. 2 in the South Central rankings and at No. 28 in the national poll. The Razorbacks and the Florida Gators are the only two SEC teams represented in this week’s poll.

Junior Miranda Walker has picked up two individual wins to start the 2009 season. She won the 4K Arkansas Invitational in a time of 14:01.5. She went on to win the MSSU Stampede in a time of 17:23.64. Arkansas also picked up team titles in both events.

Walker was named the SEC Runner of the Week for her win at the Arkansas Invitational. Allison was named the SEC Freshman of the Week after a runner-up finish, behind Walker, at the MSSU Stampede.
