Baseball Falls to Top-Ranked LSU in Hoover

Box Score

HOOVER, Ala. – The 20th-ranked and No. 5 seed University of Arkansas baseball team (35-21) fell behind early Thursday evening and never recovered, falling 10-5 to top-ranked and No. 1 seed LSU (48-9) in the third round of the SEC Tournament at the Hoover Met.

Arkansas moves on to Friday’s elimination game and a rematch with seventh-ranked and No. 4 seed Florida. The Razorbacks and Gators will play at 6:30 p.m. with the winner moving on to play LSU on Saturday in the semifinals.

The Tigers broke the game wide open in the first inning, using three hits, three stolen bases and benefiting from a trio of errors to take a 4-0 lead.

The nation’s top team added two more runs in the second inning before Arkansas came storming back in its half of the frame, scoring four runs thanks to RBI hits from Michael Bernal, Clark Eagan and Joe Serrano to make it 6-4.

The two-run deficit would be as close as Arkansas would come, as LSU scored two runs in the fourth and two more in the seventh to take a 10-4 lead. The Razorbacks added a single run in the seventh on a Tyler Spoon RBI single, but the Tigers held on for the five-run victory.

Arkansas had a season-high six errors, leading to seven unearned runs for LSU. James Teague suffered the loss, while Jackson Lowery and Jacob Stone saw action in relief.
