Etamar Bhastekar garners first-team Academic All-District honor

Razorback Etamar Bhastekar earned first-team honors on the 2020-21 Academic All-District Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country team, selected by CoSIDA, which recognizes student-athletes for their combined performances in the competition realm and in the classroom.

As a first-team Academic All-District honoree, Campbell advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, where first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in mid-August.

Majoring in economics, Bhastekar was one of 12 selections among District 6, which represents the following states: Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

Reaching a career best of 17-6 ½ in the pole vault placed Bhastekar third in the SEC Outdoor Championships, and he cleared that height twice more in the NCAA West preliminary round and to claim the national title in his native Israel.

On the Arkansas all-time list, the 17-6 ½ by Bhastekar ranks No. 5, with only 18-foot vaulters ahead of him.

Indoors, Bhastekar established a career best of 17-8 ½ to win the Wooo Pig Classic while a clearance of 16-10 ¾ placed fifth in the SEC Indoor Championships. He tied for 12th place at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a vault of 17-4 ½.

Bhastekar also competed in the heptathlon during the indoor season, where he set an Israeli national record with a score of 5,680 points. Bhastekar placed fifth in the SEC Indoor and 14th in the NCAA Indoor heptathlons. He collected a pair of second-team All-America honors for his performances at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

The 17-8 ½ height ranks equal No. 5 on the Arkansas all-time indoor list while his heptathlon score of 5,680 also ranks No. 5.
