Fassi, Hoyos Honored By SEC

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas women’s golfers Maria Fassi and Maria Hoyos earned Southeastern Conference weekly honors the league announced on Wednesday.

Fassi picked up her second SEC Women’s Golfer of the Week honor while Hoyos was named SEC Women’s Golf Freshman of the Week after the duo’s play at the Evans-Derby Experience last weekend.

The third-ranked Razorbacks are in the midst of a record-setting season. Head coach Shauna Taylor has led Arkansas to five team titles behind Fassi’s five individual wins. The team victories are the most single-season wins in program history and Taylor has 17 of the program’s 21 titles.

Fassi’s five victories make her just the second Razorback in program history to win four or more individual events. She joins #ProHogs Stacy Lewis with that honor.

Fassi’s junior campaign includes selection to the International team for the Palmer Cup and a No. 2 ranking on the ANNIKA Award watch list for the top player in women’s college golf. Her 14-under par 202 at the Evans-Derby Experience this week is the second-best score versus par in program history. It trails her own 16-under par performance at the Mason Rudolph Championship earlier this season.

In addition, Fassi’s 202 at the EDE is the second-best round in program history and the victory was her third-consecutive win in as many events.

Hoyos is a Pereira, Colombia, South America, native and the EDE was her third event as a Razorback. She finished second behind Fassi shooting a 9-under 207 with rounds of 67-70-70. Hoyos’ 67 in round one is her collegiate best single-day total as is her 207 and the second-place finish.

The Razorbacks return to the links April 13-15 at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic in Athens, Georgia, before beginning postseason play at the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Alabama, April 18-22.
