Hunter, Aragon, Win SEC Weekly Awards

Senior defender Bryana Hunter and freshman forward Sophia Aragon garnered SEC weekly honors, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Hunter earned SEC defensive player of the week, while Aragon attained SEC freshman of the week.

Hunter played a combined 180 minutes, and led the defensive unit in Arkansas’ victories over No. 13 Tennessee and UT Martin. She was active on both ends of the pitch, and was key to ending the Vols’ seven-game shutout streak. She led the back line against UT Martin, helping allow only two Skyhawk shots for the match. The weekly accolade is Hunter’s first, and the first defensive award for the Razorbacks since 2019.

Aragon’s five shots this week, all on target, put pressure on the 13th ranked Vols and UT Martin, helping extend the Hogs’ win streak to six.  She also assisted senior Parker Goins for the second goal of four in the shutout win over the Skyhawks on Sunday. Aragon is the first Hog to win freshman of the week since Ava Tankersley did so in 2020.

Arkansas soccer returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 24, to face Texas A&M. First kick is set for 6 p.m. CT and the match will be televised on SEC Network.
