José Marin Tied for First, No. 6 Women’s Golf in Fifth at MountainView Collegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. – Maria José Marin had a career day in the second round of the MountainView Collegiate, logging a career-low round 66 on Saturday to tie for first going into the final day of the tournament in the desert. The No. 16 Hogs shot a 5-under 283 to move up to fifth place with a 2-under 574 (291-283). Arkansas is three shots off a tie for the lead, which is shared with No. 17 Texas A&M and No. 42 South Florida at 5-under 571.

José Marin logged a 6-under 66 behind a bogeyless round of six birdies and 12 pars to move up 14 spots in a tie for first with a 6-under 138 (72-66). Her round in the 60s marked her sixth during her freshman season, as well as 15th round at par or under in her 19 rounds of playing collegiate golf. After two rounds, José Marin has a tie for the third best par 3s average at 2.75, fourth lowest par 5s average at 4.63 and fifth most birdies with eight.

Playing as an individual, Giovanna Fernandez registered a 1-under 71 to move 12 spots in a tie for 31st at 2-over 146 (75-71). Fernandez logged three birdies and just two bogeys along with 13 pars to make a big jump in the standings. Her round at par or under marked her second this season, sixth in her career. Fernandez has a tie for the fifth most pars in the tournament field with 27.

Reagan Zibilski finished Saturday’s round with an even 72 after registering five birdies and eight pars with five bogeys. She has an even 144 (72-72) heading into the final round, which has her in a tie for 18th. Her 72 marked the 11th time this season she has logged a round at par or under.

Miriam Ayora finished even in the second round behind four birdies and four bogeys with 10 pars. She moved up eight spots to tie for 35th with a 3-over 147 (75-72). Her round marked the 12th time this season she has finished at par or under.

Kendall Todd finished the round with a 1-over 73. She recorded two birdies and three bogeys with 13 pars on Saturday. Todd is in a tie for 47th with a 5-over 149 (76-73).

Ela Anacona finished the round with a 6-over 78. She had two birdies but recorded eight bogeys to finish over par. Going into Sunday, Anacona has a 6-over 150 (72-78), which puts her at a tie for 52nd.

After two rounds, Arkansas ties for the best par 3s average in the 15-team field at 3.00 and holds the third best par 5s average at 4.85. The Hogs have the fourth most birdies (30) and fifth most pars (115) in the field.
