Lawson Racing After Bowerman

NEW ORLEANS – Newly crowned NCAA outdoor long jump champion Jarrion Lawson was once again featured on the Bowerman Watch List. The Pre-NCAA Championships edition marked his 11th appearance on the list as he has been a mainstay since the list was first compiled in January.

Lawson recently completed a clean sweep of the long jump competition claiming the title in the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor championships as well as the Southeastern Conference Indoor and Outdoor championships. The Texarkana, Texas, native became the fourth long jumper in Razorback history to win both the NCAA indoor and outdoor titles in the event. Lawson has now amassed four gold medals in his career with three coming in long jump and the other in the 4-x-100 relay.

The senior captain looks to help power the Razorbacks to their 11th outdoor title this weekend in Eugene, Oregon. Lawson still has the ability to bring in more points for the Hogs after qualifying in the 100 and 200-meter sprints along with the 4-x-100 relay. After posting the top qualifying mark in the 4-x-100, Lawson returned to the track and won his heat in the 100 and raced to the second best time in the 200.

The Bowerman emerged in 2009 as the top award in collegiate track and field presented annually to the most outstanding male and female athletes in the country. Past recipients of the trophy include Olympians and World championship medalists.
