No. 1 Razorbacks lead with 16 NCAA Indoor entries

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas, the 2023 NCAA Indoor national champion and 2024 NCAA Indoor runner-up, enter the 2025 national championship meet in Virginia next week with the leading number of entries at 16 in 12 events.

Following the Razorbacks are USC (13), Texas Tech (10), Texas A&M (9), Washington (8), BYU (7), Virginia Tech (6), Penn State (6), Oklahoma State (6), New Mexico (6), and Auburn (6).

Arkansas’ total is the third best under Razorback men’s head coach Chris Bucknam, following the 19 entries in 2013, when the Hogs claimed a national team title, and 18 entries in 2021.

Arkansas remained No. 1 in the updated national rankings following the conference weekend ahead of USC, Texas A&M, North Carolina, Texas Tech, Auburn, Washington, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Villanova.

Arkansas freshman Scottie Vines is the leading entry in the high jump with a Division I leading height of 7-6 (2.29). Andra Manson of Texas was the last freshman to win a NCAA Indoor high jump title with a height of 7-3.75 (2.23) at Fayetteville in 2004.

Yaseen Abdballa is seeded second in the 5,000m with an Arkansas school record of 13:09.99 while teammate Patrick Kiprop ranks fifth with the previous UA record of 13:11.67. Abdalla is also seeded third in the 3,000m with his Arkansas record of 7:34.17.

The middle distance events feature Reuben Reina in the mile and Tyrice Taylor in the 800m

Apalos Edwards is seeded fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 54-6 (16.61) that placed him fourth at SEC Indoor.

Jordan Anthony’s winning time of 6.54 in the SEC Indoor 60m final is equal to the fifth seed heading into the NCAA Indoor meet. Vashaun Vascianna’s career best of 7.52 in the SEC Indoor prelims ranks fifth among the NCAA Indoor entries.

Each event will have 16 athletes entered except for 12 each in the two relay events. The Razorbacks were 13th on the national descending order list for the distance medley relay, missing out on the 12th position by 0.03. Arkansas qualified in both relays the past six years.

This marks the 15 consecutive year for the Razorbacks to qualify a 4 x 400m relay, second best streak overall behind 20 years for Texas A&M. The next best streak is 5 by Florida.

The Razorbacks are seeded third in the 4 x 400 with a time of 3:03.51, ranking behind Texas A&M (3:02.21) and Florida (3:03.24).

Jack Turner, whose score of 5,869 is seeded sixth in the meet, will represent Arkansas in the heptathlon, marking a leading ninth consecutive year for the Razorbacks to have an entry in the event. Next best is six years by Iowa.

With a pair of entries in the long jump, with Uroy Ryan and Henry Kiner, Arkansas extends is current leading streak to six years of qualifying in this event while Florida State’s string of five years was broken.

The 400m features three entries for the Razorbacks with TJ Tomlyanovich, Brandon Battle and Jaden Smith.
