No. 12 Arkansas Back In Action On The Road
Riverside and Southern Stampede Notes
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s cross country team will seek to maintain their momentum as they compete in both the Riverside Invitational in Riverside, California, and the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Missouri.
The Razorbacks are ranked No.1 in the South Central region and No. 12 in the nation, according to the latest USTFCCCA poll.
Arkansas finished first at the Cowboy Duals on Sept. 1 and boasted four top 10 finishers in the 3k race. Newcomer Carina Viljoen finished first, followed by a third-place finish from Rachel Nichwitz and a seventh and eighth place finish from Kelsey Schrader and Micah Huckabee, respectively.
Viljoen hopes to establish a winning streak as she competes in the 6K this weekend in Riverside. Schrader and Nichwitz will also take on the 6k course, along with Cowboy Duals top 25 finisher Logan Bishop. All-Region returners Nikki Hiltz and Valerie Reina as well as freshman stud Abby Gray will kick off their 2016 campaigns in the West coast competition.
Members of the Razorbacks’ top-five at the Cowboy Duals — Huckabee and Madeleine Reed — will lead the charge in the 5K section of the Riverside Invitational joined by teammates Sydney Brown, Therese Haiss, Grace Taylor and Taylor Werner.
Canadian middle-distance specialist Kailee Sawyer will headline the Southern Stampede crew. Katie Adams, Safee Belbina, Sabrina Herrmann, Emily Jeacock and Kristen Larken will also attempt to contribute in the pursuit of another team victory.
