Razorback Soccer Puts Three on MAC Hermann Award Watch List
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Soccer put three on the MAC Hermann Award Watch List, the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) announced on Thursday afternoon. Senior defender Haley VanFossen was named to the list for the second-straight season while Parker Goins and Anna Podojil are making their first career appearances. All three were members of the 2020 All-SEC First Team, leading the Hogs to their second-straight regular season SEC title.
Podojil has set program history in just her first two years wearing a Razorback uniform, becoming the first Hog to win SEC Freshman of the Year (2019) and SEC Offensive Player/Forward of the Year (2020). The sophomore forward also joined VanFossen last season as the first United Soccer Coaches All-Americans in program history. Podojil has put away 18 goals and added 15 assists in just two seasons, including a shortened fall 2020 schedule.
VanFossen, the only Razorback in school history to be named to the All-SEC First Team three times, is back on the watch list after being the only Razorback listed in 2019. VanFossen is a two-time member of the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region First Team (2018, ’19) and All-SEC Tournament Team (2017, ’18). The senior defender has anchored a defensive line allowing just 0.76 goals per game over the last two seasons. On Wednesday, the Chicago Red Stars acquired her NWSL playing rights for the 2022 season.
After being taken by Racing Louisville FC as the 21st pick of the 2021 NWSL Draft, Parker Goins finds herself on the watch list following back-to-back campaigns as an All-SEC First Team performer (2019, ’20). Bouncing back from a season-ending ACL injury in 2018, Goins went on to net 10 goals and dish out nine assists last year. She was named to the 2019 United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Second Team and was on the All-SEC Second Team and SEC All-Freshman team in her first season with the Razorbacks.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is given annually to the United Soccer Coaches National Players of the Year in Division I on both the men’s and women’s side based on the votes of Division I coaches.
