Two Arkansas Swimmers Compete On Second Day of U.S. Open
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Two Arkansas swimmers competed on the second day of the 2017 U.S. Open Swimming Championships in New York in the 200 breaststroke.
Juniors Madison Strathman and Sydney Angell each swam in the event, posting 34th (2:37.80) and 36th (2:38.08) place finishes respectively in the prelims.
“They both had good, solid swims, they just weren’t fast enough,” said head coach Neil Harper. “Both Sydney and Madison are 100 swimmers so we are excited for Saturday.”
Despite neither qualifying for the event finals on Thursday evening, both will get the chance to compete again this week at in the 100 breast on Saturday.
On Wednesday, senior Jessie Garrison swam a long course personal best 2:14.98 in the 200 fly in the prelims to qualify for the event’s B-final where she finished fifth in her heat, 13th overall.
Next up, Garrison will jump back in the water on Friday morning to swim in the 100 fly prelims.
