Arkansas Sweeps SEC Weekly Awards

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- The Arkansas swimming and diving team swept the SEC weekly awards, as announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore Brooke Schultz was named Diver of the Week, Vanessa Hermann was named Freshman of the Week, and junior Anna Hopkin was named Co-Swimmer of the Week.

This is the first time in program history that more than two Razorbacks have been recognized in one week.

Schultz set the 3-meter (391.43) pool record as well as the 1-meter (375.53) school and pool records in her springboard sweep against No. 25 Houston over the weekend. Her 1-meter score was a personal-best, and both scores were the highest of any SEC diver for the week. This is the Fayetteville, Ark. native’s fifth weekly honor of the season.

Herrmann took the podium in all four events she competed in, winning the 100 yard and 200 yard breaststroke. Both times were the fastest of any SEC freshman swimmer and were Top-20 times in the NCAA for the week. This is the Bismarck, N.D. native’s first SEC honor.

Hopkin won the four events she competed in and had the fastest times of the week in the SEC for 100 yard and 200 yard freestyle. Her 400 yard freestyle relay time of 3:22.99 with teammates Kobie Melton, Molly More, and Kiera Michailoff-Russell was the second-fastest in the NCAA and fastest in the SEC. This is the Preston, England native’s second conference honor of the season.

“This is the first time in program history that we are fortunate to perform strong enough to sweep the awards,” head coach Neil Harper said. ” The level of competition week to week is unbelievable, and the fact that Anna and Vanessa are first-year swimmers and Brooke is a sophomore bodes well for the future of the program.”

Arkansas will return to the pool on Feb. 2 to host Kansas in the regular-season finale at 10 a.m. Senior day activities are scheduled to begin prior to the first event.
