Bud Walton Arena Tabbed as Regional Site for 2027 NCAA Gymnastics Championships

Bud Walton Arena will serve as a big stage yet again in 2027 as it has been named a regional site for the 2027 NCAA Gymnastics Championships, the NCAA announced on Wednesday.

2027 will mark the second time an NCAA Gymnastics Regional is hosted at Bud Walton Arena, the first was this past spring. Arkansas hosted an action-packed three days of regional competition in April that ended with the Gymbacks punching their ticket to nationals as a team for the first time since 2019.

The Hogs won their semifinal in Fayetteville with a then-program regional record of 197.325 and broke it just two nights later with the 197.825 mark that sent them to Fort Worth.

The regional event saw a combined attendance of 8,206 and brought in teams and individual student-athletes across 11 states and 12 programs, including Arkansas, and seven different conferences.

“We are extremely grateful for the opportunity to host an NCAA Regional again in 2027. Our first postseason weekend at Bud Walton Arena in April was an incredible experience for us and all other participating teams and student-athletes,” head coach Jordyn Wieber said. “As we continue to elevate our program, we look forward to hosting some of the best competition our sport has to offer and making Fayetteville one of the first stops in the journey to a national championship.”

Arkansas has played host to regional competition six times throughout program history and has been very successful in each. The Gymbacks have never finished lower than third in a home regional and have advanced to nationals out of their own regional all but twice. Of the program’s nine team NCAA Championships berths, four of them had the road begin in Fayetteville.
