Academic All-America accolade for Razorback Nastassja Campbell

Razorback pole vaulter Nastassja Campbell garnered second-team honors on the 2020-21 Academic All-America Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), which recognizes student-athletes for their combined performances in competition and the classroom.

A communication major, Campbell was one of 19 All-America members who produced a 4.0 grade point average. In all, 46 student-athletes were selected among first-team (16), second-team (15), and third-team (15) accolades.

Overall, the Arkansas women’s program has collected 41 CoSIDA Academic All-America honors by 29 student-athletes.

In the Razorbacks history with the CoSIDA Academic All-America program Tara Diebold earned the distinction three times. Two-time honorees include Kim Mount, Megan Flowers, Jessica Daily, Andreina Byrd, Jessica Johnson, Maureen Scott, Katie Stripling, Sandi Morris, Lexi Jacobus, Tori Hoggard, and Taylor Werner.

During her initial season competing for the Razorbacks, Campbell was the lone collegian to reach the U.S. Olympic Trials pole vault final where a clearance of 14-9 placed her sixth.

Campbell opened her outdoor campaign with a 14-9 ½ career best victory in the Texas Relays in late March, which served as the outdoor collegiate leading mark for a majority of the season.

During the SEC Outdoor Championships, Campbell improved her career best to 14-10 ¾ to secure the victory over NCAA Indoor and Outdoor champion Lisa Gunnarsson of LSU, who earned first-team Academic All-America honors, and teammate Lauren Martinez, who tied for second place at 14-8 ¾.

The 14-10 ¾ height for Campbell moved her to No. 5 on the Arkansas all-time list behind a quartet of national champion vaulters – Sandi Morris (15-5 ¾), Lexi Jacobus (15-5), Tina Sutej (15-1 ½), and Tori Hoggard (14-11 ½).

Indoors, Campbell vaulted 14-3 ¼ in placing fourth at the SEC Indoor Championships. It was the fifth time during the indoor campaign she vaulted over 14 feet. Campbell earned second-team All-America honors placing ninth at the NCAA Indoor Championships.

On the Arkansas indoor all-time list, the 14-3 ¼ height for Campbell ties her with April Steiner at No. 9.
