Arkansas Opens Play Against FGCU In Florida

BONITA SPRINGS, Fla. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team began action at the FGCU Collegiate open Friday, facing off against the host school FGCU in the first day of action in Bonita Springs.

The tournament, which was team based, saw the Razorbacks split action against FGCU with the Kentucky Wildcats. The Razorbacks and the Wildcats will be paired throughout the weekend.

Jose and Pedro Alonso beat Javier Fernandez and Ezequiel Cerrini 7-6 in doubles play as the Razorbacks split their doubles matches Friday.

In singles action, the Razorbacks took four wins in the first day of play, with three coming in two sets. Pedro Alonso beat Feliksas Sakalauskas (FGCU) 6-2, 6-3.  Jose Alonso picked up his sixth win of the fall beating Javier Fernandez, 6-0, 6-3. Enrique Paya, who now leads the team with seven fall wins in singles play, defeated Turner Voges 6-1, 6-1.

The Razorbacks will return to action tomorrow, as they are set to face the Memphis Tigers tomorrow at 11:30.
