Arkansas To Open SEC Play At Home

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team will host South Carolina (Friday) and Florida (Sunday) to open Southeastern Conference play this weekend. The matches are the first Feb. 16.

Arkansas (9-4) last saw action Feb. 16 as it split its doubleheader against Oklahoma and UMKC. Carolina (9-1) comes into Friday’s match riding a seven-match winning streak, but have played just one match on the road this season, while Arkansas owns a 8-2 record at home this season. The Razorbacks took last season’s conference home opener 6-1 over LSU at the Billingsley Tennis Center.

In dual play this season, the Razorbacks boast a .632 winning percentage, and are led by Enrique Paya (7-4) and Alex Reco (7-3) through 13 matches. Paya and his partner Maxim Verboven (7-3) also lead Arkansas in doubles play where it owns a 21-10 (.677) record overall. Shortly behind Paya and Reco in singles action is Jose Dominguez Alonso (6-3), Pedro Dominguez Alonso (6-4), Maxim Verboven (6-2) and Josh Howard Tripp (6-5). Oscar Mesquida leads the Razorbacks in ranked singles matches, facing six ranked players, going 3-3 overall.

Oscar Mesquida still leads the Razorbacks as he comes in at No. 102 in the national rankings in singles play. The Gamecocks have three nationally-ranked players, led by fourth-ranked Paul Jubb, while 17th-ranked Oliver Crawford leads four Gators who come in in the latest rankings. In addition, the Gators have three ranked doubles squads. Arkansas’ match against Florida will be its fifth of the season against opponents inside the top-25.
