Hogs take 2nd at Morris Williams Intercollegiate

AUSTIN, Texas-Two days and 54 holes after the start of the Morris Williams Intercollegiate the No. 25 ranked University of Arkansas men’s golf team finished in second place behind the winner, No. 2 ranked Oklahoma State. Oklahoma State took the victory with an 11-over series of 863(285-284-294).Arkansas spent the first two rounds in third place, but was able to overtake Southern California’s lead in the final, producing a 36-over 888(295-295-298) score. Following Arkansas by three strokes, Southern California ended with a 39-over 891(291-299-301). Tournament host Texas finished in fourth among the 18 teams with a 44-over 896(296-299-301).Oklahoma State’s Morgan Hoffman shot a 1-under 212(72-70-70) to share the title with Southern California’s Tom Glissmeyer who card a 212(69-70-73).After Arkansas golfer Jamie Marshall was forced to bow out of competition during the first day because of a back injury, Arkansas was left to play the tournament with only four players. “It was impressive that we were able to come together like we did, with it being a difficult course,” head coach Brad McMakin said. “The guys played really well in a field of quality teams.”Junior David Lingmerth finished first among his teammates in fourth place, moving up from a tie at sixth place at the beginning of the day with a 5-over 218(74-71-73). Jason Cuthbertson made a dramatic leap from his tie at 28th place to a tie in ninth for the final round scoring 9-over 222(76-74-72). Ethan Tracy slid down the leader board three places to a tie at ninth, carding a 9-over 222(71-74-77) for the two day event. Andrew Landry finished 13-over 226(74-76-76) and tied for 25th place.“It was the best tournament we played all year long,” McMakin said. “We were able to beat the No. 3 ranked USC, who went to the National Championship last year with the very same team.”The Razorbacks will next be competing at the Reunion Intercollegiate hosted by Ole Miss April 7-8, where they will face UAB, Auburn, Jackson State, and LSU. Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Mississippi State, UNCG, North Florida, Ole Miss, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Mississippi and Vanderbilt. It is the final regular season tournament before the SEC Championships April 17-19.
