Kennedy Thomson, Daszay Freeman each place fifth in Trials finals

National championships held in other countries that involved Razorbacks on Sunday included fifth place efforts by Daszay Freeman in Jamaica and Kennedy Thomson in Canada.

Freeman posted a time of 13.09 (0.1 wind) in the 100m hurdles at the Jamaica Trials. At the Canadian Trials, Thompson ran a time of 4:22.25 in the 1,500m.

Meanwhile, the final day of the U.S. Olympic Trials held Sunday with temperatures in triple digits for the second consecutive day at Hayward Field resulted in a postponement of the meet for five hours.

Arkansas alum Taliyah Brooks, in fourth place following the heptathlon long jump, fainted after taking a warm-up throw prior to the start of the heptathlon javelin and was escorted off the facility in a wheelchair and taken to a hospital.

Following the javelin portion of the javelin as well as the men’s high jump, USA Track & Field officials issued a statement at 3:20 p.m. PT that the remainder of the schedule would be postponed until 8:30 p.m. PT.

Brooks appealed to complete the heptathlon following the postponement and her request to re-enter competition was granted by the USATF Games Committee. At the time Brooks was scheduled to throw the javelin, USATF announced that she had withdrawn from competition.

Having scored 3,946 points during the first day of the heptathlon and in second place, Brooks had a long jump of 20-10 ½ (6.36) for 962 points. Her overall position dropped to fourth place heading into the javelin with 4,908 points.

The top three overall scores after the long jump included Annie Kunz (5,049), Kendell Williams (5,006), and Erica Bougard (4,919). Following the javelin, the top three remained the same, but in a different order as Williams (5,816) led over Kunz (5,814) and Bougard (5,716).

The final scores after the 800m had Kunz (6,703) claiming the victory over Williams (6,683) and Bougard (6,667).
