Lady'Back golf announces 2006-07 schedule

Jump to schedule FAYETTEVILLE — Top-notch competition and the absence of a home event highlight the 2006-07 University of Arkansas women’s golf schedule head coach Kelley Hester announced today. Five fall and six spring regular season events take Arkansas from September to April and coast-to-coast this year. "I feel really good about our schedule," said Arkansas head coach Kelley Hester. "The NCAA Preview wasn’t on our schedule last year because the course wasn’t really. It’s kind of an honor and privilege to be a part of that event. We’re going to Stanford for the first time and that will be exciting as well. You can’t help but notice that we don’t have a home event this year but we added Stanford in its place and that will be a strong event against a good field." The Lady’Backs open the fall at the Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt. Arkansas was third in the same opener in 2005 carding a then-school record 884 in the tournament. Arkansas next travels to the NCAA Preview hosted by Central Florida at LPGA International in Dayton Beach, Fla. This event serves as a precursor to the NCAA Championship which takes place at the same course May 22-25. The Lady’Backs make their second consecutive appearance at the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Classic hosted by Tennessee. Arkansas finished third last year paced by Amanda McCurdy with the first of two medalist honors for the El Dorado, Ark., native. The fall wraps up with the Peg Barnard Invitational and the Hooters Match Play Championship. The Peg Barnard, hosted by Stanford, is a new event for Arkansas while the team returns to the match play event for the second year in a row. The match play championship takes place in Orlando, Fla., and Arkansas finished 4-1 at last year’s invitation-only event winning the consolation B title in the only collegiate match play event of the year. "We’re going back to the match play and we’re playing at Vanderbilt and Tennessee," said Hester. "We played well at all three of those events last year and I think those will again be good competition for us." The spring sends the Lady’Backs back to the Sunshine State for the Central District Invitational hosted by Michigan State in Parrish, Fla., Feb. 19-20. Arkansas returns to Fayetteville only to make its way to Florida for the third time for the UCF Invitational in Grand Cypress, Fla. A central swing follows as the Lady’Backs take part in the Betsy Rawls Long Invitational, the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic and the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in March and April. Arkansas is making its fifth appearance at the Texas-hosted Betsy Rawls and travels to Athens, Ga., for its 12th stop at the Georgia-hosted Liz Murphey. The Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic is the only event other than the Southeastern Conference Championship that the Lady’Backs have competed in every season since adding golf for the 1995-96 season. Oklahoma hosts the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic before the Lady’Backs travel to West Point, Miss., and Old Waverly Golf Course for the 2007 SEC Championship hosted by Mississippi State. The Lady’Backs will then hope for both an NCAA Regional and NCAA Championship selection in May. For more information about Arkansas golf, log on to LADYBACKS.COM.
