Lais Steps Down as MGolf Associate Head Coach

FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas men’s golf associate head coach Barrett Lais announced that he is stepping down to pursue other career opportunities.

Lais served the Razorbacks for 13 seasons, the last three as associate head coach, and helped the program win the 2019 SEC Championship, finish runner-up in 2021 and reach NCAA Regionals in each of the 12 years the championships were held during his tenure. Arkansas finished runner-up at Regionals five times and advanced to eight NCAA Championships. On two additional occasions, Arkansas sent an individual to the NCAA Championship with Mason Overstreet finishing national runner-up in 2017.

“Barrett played a key role in the success of Razorback golf,” head coach Brad McMakin said. “The talent level has risen in each of his 13 years to keep Arkansas among the top programs in the country. He built great relationships among our players and in the Northwest Arkansas community. I am thankful for his hard work on and off the course to make the Razorback golf program what it is today. We wish him and his family the best as he moves on to another chapter his life.”

A 2008 Arkansas graduate and Razorback letterwinner, Lais helped the Razorbacks earn 16 All-American honors, 26 All-Region honors and 15 All-SEC honors. The top 13 team scoring averages and the top nine individual scoring averages have all come during Lais’ time. Lais helped Arkansas land the #1 recruiting class in the nation in 2016 with the likes of Overstreet, William Buhl and Luis Garza, while the program has produced PGA TOUR pros Sebastian Cappelen, Austin Cook, Nicolas Echavarria, Taylor Moore and Ethan Tracy.
