Lewis moves on in 19-hole win

PINEHURST, N.C. – University of Arkansas junior golfer Stacy Lewis pulled out a thrilling victory in the third round of the 104th North and South Women’s Amateur in Pinehurst, N.C., Friday morning. Lewis needed 19 holes to edge Alison Whitaker in a rain-delayed third round. Lewis, Golfweek.com’s top-ranked amateur this week, moved on to face Mary Jacobs of Godfrey, Ill., in the second match of the day. Results from this match will be available late Friday. A win over Jacobs moves Lewis, a Woodlands, Texas, native, into the round of four with the hopes of advancing to Sunday’s 36-hole final. It’s been a busy summer for the two-time all-Southeastern Conference and National Golf Coaches Association all-American. Lewis has played nearly every weekend, winning the Western Amateur and finish as the runner-up at the Southern Amateur. Lewis also became the first Lady Razorback to take part in an LPGA event competing at last week’s Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic in Ohio.
